Excuse me for talking so long with this, but I'm still speaking about the myth about Malcolm, and I want say a few words about the key book to understanding him, the book of speeches, Malcolm X Speaks. ...

The idea for this book, it is true, was suggested by Marxists, who wanted to help Malcolm publicize his independent ideas.

But it was not a book thought up after Malcolm's death -- it was suggested to Malcolm himself, while he was still alive, as a book of his speeches following the break with Elijah Muhammad.

Malcolm's response to suggestion was favorable, and he was going to select the speeches himself.

But, he was killed a month later, before he could start on the project.

私が 今 話してる Malcolm の 神話についての 講演が 長びき 申し訳ない、それでも 彼を 理解する上で 重要な 一冊の 講演集、"Malcolm X Speaks" に 関して 一言だけ いわせてほしい。

この本の 計画が、Malcolm を 援助し 独立後の 彼の 考えが 公表されることを 望む マルクス主義者たちによって 提案された、というのは 真実だ。

だが この本は Malcolm の 死後 でっちあげられたのでは ない -- それは 彼が まだ 生きていたとき、彼と Elijah Muhammad との 決裂後の 演説集として、Malcolm X 本人に 提案された。

Malcolm から 提案を 承諾する旨 返事が あり、そして 彼は 自分で 演説の 選択を するつもりだった。

しかし 1月後、この計画が 彼によって すすめられる前に、彼は 殺されたのだ。
